Extended Arms

Here are some letters from those we help, and from those who help us!

Last year I was praying and seeking a way to be used by God for my community. As God often works along came Wanda, who asked if I would be willing to decorate a bedroom in a local Battered Woman’s Shelter. I said yes, but then felt like God was saying I need to commit to more, because God does not do small. So I committed to doing 1 whole apartment. I prayed and talked to all my friends and we were blessed with not 1 apartment , but enough new and beautiful things to furnish 2 ½ apartments!  It was so amazing to be a part of that miracle!  Partnering with Houses of Hope, we have been able to complete 6 beautiful apartments, and to redo a huge living room, dining room and kitchen at the Woman’s Youth Challenge.  It has been a total blessing to be a part of God’s Grace and Miracles.  A real life changing event and all I had to do was be willing.

Houses Of Hope is an extension of my heart.   Even though I may not be able to personally involve myself in every project, I know my monetary support is making a direct difference in the lives of others.   The love, care and support that Houses of Hope gives in community outreaches changes the quality of life for many.

Dear Wanda,

I just want to share with you how Houses of Hope has truly been extended arms for us here at the Youth Challenge Bettye Collier Home for Women. We are a 12 - 18 month program for women who have substance abuse problems. The women come to us either as a walk-in or from the jail system praying that they get the opportunity to come into this program to get their life back. We give them more than just a drug treatment program. We give them Jesus, His love and His Word to help them get a renewed mind so they won't want to go back to the mess they were in.

This home at 223 29th St in Newport News, VA has been here since 1890 when it was built. The women's home has been here for almost 30 years and lately has been in much need of repairs. Last November 2008, Wanda called me and asked if there was anything that Houses of Hope could do and I just said, "Come on over, take a look and take some pics" and they did just that.

Houses of Hope raised enough money to redo our entire kitchen, put new walls up in the dining area and family/class area in our huge basement and had them painted. They also supplied the furniture for the family area. Talk about extended arms! Angie then went to work with her wonderful painting and painted beautiful murals on some of the walls.

I am just so amazed and in wonder at all the wonderful things that the women at Houses of Hope has done and continues to do to help with this ministry in this home.

We only have 3 staff members and we are so very busy with the things that need to be done in the day that we could never have accomplished what Houses of Hope has done for us. What a blessing it is. Words cannot really express how I feel about the wonderful things you all have done for us.

And the women truly enjoy it when you come over and give them a "Day of Beauty" treatment. They get their nails and hair done. For the women to see this and experience this is like seeing Jesus' love at work.

The women also get to experience doing crafts for the holidays. Without these arms extended, the women would not have this opportunity.

You will never know how much you have affected us here with the Gospel in action until you receive your rewards in heaven.

We just want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for all you do and continue to do for us!!!

God Bless,

Connie Patterson

My Dearest Wanda, Thank you for doing what I cannot do myself because of other obligations. I have known you for many years, wow, about 25 and know your heart is after families but most of all children. You have dedicated most of your life to blessing and helping children either through church, sacrficing much time and money or out in the community going to businesses asking for their assistance in helping needy families. I find it an absolute blessing to be able to sow into your ministry and plan to continue to do so. God Bless and Know God's hand is in this.

I have helped with Houses of Hope since the day it started. It is a great way to help others in need in our community. I am always so blessed to see the look on peoples faces when you do something nice for them. I've had the opportunity to help Wanda with several different events like remodeling an apartment at the battered women's shelter and several events at Youth Challenge. I had a chance to take my kids with me to help on occasion too, it made a big impact on my kids life to be able to help others who are in need. I believe in the ministry Houses of Hope is providing to those in need . You cannot out give GOD!!!!!!!!!
